The week has brought fantastic summer weather—and a real heatwave. And the puppies have spent most of their days playing outside:

And because of the hot weather they also had their first try tasting a watermelon:

At the beginning of the week, however, we spotted four red kites in the sky for the first time: a breeding pair with their two fledglings. Since then, they have flown over once or twice every day, so for now the puppies are only allowed to play in the garden under supervision while they are still so small :)

One of the lovely summer evenings, we took a trip to Odense for a walk around the forest lake. The area is very popular, and at the moment the annual summer revue is also taking place there. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the outing and were happily exhausted from all the new sights and experiences by the time we got home.

We continue to encourage their motor development. One way we do this is by serving their meals on surfaces that move.
Here, they're eating on a balance board:

The four girls also attended their very first training session. At this age, they don't train together with the adult dogs, but they get the opportunity to meet new dogs and soak up lots of new experiences.

They were also lucky enough to meet the sweetest Podenco in the world. He did his very best to make himself as small as possible and lay completely flat on the ground to greet the girls.

Despite the summer heat, it doesn't take much of a sunbeam for an Italian to start sunbathing. Here they are relaxing on the surfboard and directly on the floor. Normally, an Italian only lies on soft surfaces—with the exception of a lovely patch of sunshine :)

Because of the heat, we haven't been able to go out during the daytime, so our walks have been moved to the late evening. Here's one of our evening walks around the local area:

9 weeks old—and soon the first of the girls will be ready to leave the nest. We feel the weeks have passed far too quickly. It seems like only yesterday they were tiny newborn puppies. The development that takes place during the first weeks of their lives is truly amazing. We have enjoyed every moment with these four little treasures. It has been such a pleasure getting to know each of them and watching their individual personalities emerge. Now they are ready to continue growing and developing on their journey toward adulthood.
The 4 girls at 9 weeks old:
